1966 remains a remarkable year in the annals of events in Nigeria history; a year that young military officers agreed to shake the table and they decided to carry out a bloody revolution, to bring an end to an era of political brigandage, administrative rascality, criminality, ethnic and religious bigotry in political landscape.
The young Military officers were patriots who wanted to put Nigeria back on track to the vision of the founding fathers. But unfortunately, they were naive, the thought Nigeria is a nation, they thought Britain is interested in the development of Nigeria.
They never asked questions like: -
1. Why didn't Britain hand over power to intellectuals like Obafemi Awolowo, Chief Akintola, Anthony Enahoro, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Nwafor Orizu, Michael Okpara etc. But rather handed over power to people who once said that Nigeria is not ripe for independence and people that detest western education and religion?
2. Why did Britain rig the first National census to favour the North according Harold Smith?
3. Why did Britain introduce in Nigeria a system of education that produce grammarians rather that entrepreneurs? Some of our people were even proud to tell you they attended grammar school.
To destroy the dream of these young military officers who desired a paradigm shift and a change of status quo, they tagged the military coup an Igbo coup, using their propaganda megaphone; BBC Hausa service, they incited the Northern Peasants and Almajiri to engage in a pogrom which led to the massacre of Igbos in the North. In one day alone about 5,500 Igbos/Biafrans were massacred in Kano alone.
The Aburi conference was actually to stop the impending danger of looming humanitarian crisis. One of the recommendations of the Accord was for a return to the regional system of government, which saw the regions doing well economically against the wish of Britain.
Britain ill-advised Gowon to reject the Aburi Accord and the same Gowon briefed Obafemi Awolowo to reject the same recommendations of Aburi Accord which they all agreed as the only panacea to an impending civil war.
Britain was able to gather support from her Western allies by lying to the world that Biafrans are Rebels. Come to think of it who is the rebel here?
A rebel is a person who resists an established authority, often violently. By this definition, Nigeria, Britain and all her allies are the rebels not Biafrans who were only interested in obeying the term of Aburi Accord.
The Biafra genocide of 1967-1970 was orchestrated by Britain using her stooge Yakubu Gowon to slaughter over 3.5 million Biafrans and starved 2.5 million Biafra infants and children to death.
Till date Britain is still on a silent mission of exterminating Biafrans using Nigeria military and police. You can attest to this by Britain's criminal silence over the extra rendition of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, his illegal detention in DSS custody and the burning down of Biafra communities by Nigeria security agents with the alibi that a soldier is missing in the community.
Who then are the Rebels trying to destroy Biafra; a nation that has been in existence 5,000 years before Britain.
30th of May is a date to remember the heroes and heroines, the victims of Biafra genocide and victims of Biafra Restoration Project. It’s a day of total lock down in the entire Biafra land.
Come Oh Biafra!!
